Okinawa Japan, The Ancient Ryukyu Kingdom

Okinawa is made up of over 160 islands scattered over the Pacific Ocean.  Okinawa is a sub tropical climate with warm clear waters to dive and explore year round.

 Okinawa (Ryukyu Islands) is Japan's Southern Islands which keep attracting divers from all over the world, with its rich coral reefs, landscapes, variety of sea animals. The water temperature ranges between 20C to 30C (70-86 degrees!) - Okinawa is the only place in Japan where you can go diving in wetsuits all year around!
Thousands of reef fish can be seen swimming on Okinawa's extraordinary reefs, a variety of unique Nudibranchs, colorful Sea Fans, a blue caves with beautiful sunshine coming through, schooling Hammerhead Sharks, families of humpback whales, Manta Rays, four kinds of turtles, wrecks from World War II,  Dream Hole, underwater air domes, caves, Big Schools of Jacks, Underwater Ruins... these are the only part of the list that Okinawa offers. We are the only full service scuba diving center in Okinawa, Japan -catering to both non-Japanese speaking divers. Al of our staff is fluent in English and we also speak: Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese and Spanish fluently.  We also have staff that can communicate the basics in Korean and Tagalog.   In operation since 1996, we have been serving the dive community in southern Japan for over 20 Years. Reef Encounters is also the only English speaking NAUI Instructor Training Facility and Technical Dive training facility in Japan.

Average Ocean Temperature in Okinawa
Okinawa sea temperatures peak in the range 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) in mid July and are at their lowest in mid February, in the range 21 to 23°C (70 to 73°F). Year round warm ocean temperatures allow enjoyment of the Okinawa ocean for 12 months out of the year.  "Winter" months are best dove with a 5mm suit and hood if windy and rainy, while summer months allow us to dive in shorts and rash guards.

The air temperature in Okinawa is favorable all year with our cooler months of Jan and Feb still have low temps of only 14-15C with daily highs of 19-20C on average. Our summer months are warm but the cool sea breezes found on the island keep the heat bearable.  Temperature usually max out in the low 30'sC during July and August.
